Welcome

Welcome, this site will be devoted to providing information about the ongoing maintenance issues that take place at The Creek Club . As this site is developed, content will be added that demonstrates things that range from course care to comprehensive details about agronomic procedures. I hope that this will become a useful tool in communicating things that are taking place on the golf course. I will try to use the blog to explain how and why we do some of the things we do on the golf course.

2.5 Inches of rain Saturday

The course was hit hard friday night about 7:30 PM  in about forty minutes 2.5 inches of rain fell! All 61 Bunkers were completely washed out.  We skipped mowing greens Saturday morning and worked on quick fixing the bunkers. It had to happen on the weekend! The crew of 9 work really hard this morning till about noon but got them all playable. It so labor intensive for the crew which has to shovel and hand rake all 61 bunkers.

July Aerification

Today we are completing our scheduled July 3/8 aerification this will help dry the putting surface provide air and gas exchange to the root zone and help reduce stress to the Bentgrass greens.

The first two week of July has been a wet and challenging stretch.  The weather has been very cool for us in Georgia but with excessive rain amounts totaling almost 8 inches in a 16 day period.

The humidity and wet soils puts a tremendous stress on the Bentgrass greens.I compare it to keeping the same pair of wet socks on your feet for a week without taking them off!

I can't begin to tell you how lucky we've been to have had the below average temperatures this summer with all this rain. Wet soils and heat feels like a wet sponge on a hot frying pan!
