Aerification has many benefits for the turf. It lessens compaction, allows air and water to penetrate into the soil profile and helps thatch to break down. All of this is very important to the health of the turf and help to provide great playing conditions year after year. I thought this year’s aerification went smoothly. We started after lunch on the practice greens and continued one forward following the last group about 3:30. The Crew put in a lot of hard work and long hours both days to complete the aerification process on all twenty-four greens. It is a major process Aerifying, Cleaning up the cores, Detail blowing, Rolling 3x, Topdressing, Brushing and applying all our granular soil amendments. Topdressing went very well, and the majority of the holes were filled to the top with sand. We use about 75 tons total. The weather was good and the greens seem to heal in about in about 11 days. It always seems to take about three week for the greens to be really good.
